We need ICE
I was glad to hear our governor allocated $750K to assist with the high crime rate accruing. I read the recent article containing police chief Garcia’s plan to allocate these funds to fight crime. Is there any reason why the local police and city government would not request and align with ICE to come in and remove undocumented contributors to crime. This resource is highly available and willing, funded federally, and trained and resource to tackle several roots to this horrible problem.
There are many people I talk to throughout the valley who know exactly where several of these criminal reside. Together with police, citizen involvement, and the resources of ICE we can productively remove a big chunk of the problems Española is experiencing. We can’t look the other way. Please Governor Grisham, Police Chief Garcia, and City officials will you deploy ICE in Española because it’s unsafe and our property values are going down.
Thanks in Advance

Bring Back
Our Descanso
The first week of September was another ordinary routine for me, heading to work.
I got a call from my mother on Thursday morning, late morning, and I answered, and she was upset. I asked her what had happened.
She gathered her words and thoughts and told me someone took or stole your Dad’s two descansos.
First thoughts racing in my mind: how could someone take it? It was a 50-60-pound rock. I talked with her and asked her to contact the surrounding neighbors if anyone had seen something.
So she made calls, and of course, people did see, and multiple stories matched. Our family was hurt and in disbelief that someone could disrespect a descanso that has been in place for over 20 years. It brought back a lot of emotional memories for us. It felt like someone had killed my father again in the same place and discarded his memory like he was nothing.
His life was taken in El Llano, May 10, 2000, less than a mile from our home, riding his motorcycle by the old county buildings, now a daycare.
Taking my dad’s descanso is a very disgusting thing to do. I can’t imagine the thought process a person can have to think they have the right to do so, or even have the will to remove it physically.
Our family knows who did it, and we ask if you didn’t throw it, we want it back; leave it where you found it.
The photo is of the descanso that was taken. It was placed over 20 years ago into the ground with concrete with a pipe base.

Editor’s note: A descanso is a marker placed at the site of a person’s death as a memorial.
