(SUNfoto by Lou Mattei) Holy Cross Catholic School kindergarten student Eliseo Valdez performs a traditional eagle dance for his classmates Feb. 10 during a field trip the class took to Valdez’ grandparents’ home in the Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo. Teacher Lea Leyba said the trip was designed to have the class participate in traditional pueblo feast day activities. In addition to the dance, students helped Valdez’ grandmother, Norma Naranjo, cook traditional feast day foods like horno bread and posole, as well as some non-traditional foods like pizza.
