Police Blotter: ‘Dopey’ Steals Sneakers

    Española Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police and State Police responded to the following calls:

Victim No ‘Rat’

Monday, Feb. 15

    • 3:29 a.m. — A caller reported a bearded male was in a suspicious vehicle parked at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Police dispatched to the scene did not find the car.

    • 9:23 a.m. — A Calle Romero woman called and requested a skunk trap.

    • 1:03 p.m. — A caller reported a male in his mid-20s with a beauty mark on his right upper lip stole a $150 radar detector from the Radio Shack in Española.

    • 1:20 p.m. — A woman called to report her ex-boyfriend, nicknamed “Dopey,” stole speakers and other items from her house and was headed toward the Santa Cruz Church.

    • 2:54 p.m. — An Abiquiú man reported walking in on several unknown men robbing his home. The suspects got away with a laptop and other items.

    • 3:37 p.m. — A Chimayó woman reported being attacked by her 21-year-old son, who allegedly bashed her head into the wall.

    • 7:36 p.m. — An Española woman called to report a domestic violence incident. When police arrived at the scene, the woman said she “did not want to be a rat” and refused to answer questions. The woman’s mother had also locked herself in her bedroom until police left.

    • 7:46 p.m. — A woman called to report six shirtless males walking around firing shots on Paseo de Paulina.

Only One Bad Drunk

Tuesday, Feb. 16

    • 3:45 p.m. — A Calle Bustos caller requested police remove two people from her residence. She told police they were not doing anything but she wanted them removed anyway.

    • 3:46 p.m. — Police were dispatched to Ray’s Auto in response to a call about a man going around breaking windows with a rock.

    • 4:07 p.m. — A woman called to report that her purse had been stolen while she was in Northern New Mexico College’s library.

    • 8:06 p.m. — A man called to report one of his friends was getting drunk and rowdy. The caller said there were five people in the house, all of whom had been drinking wine, but only the one subject was causing problems.

Punch and Run

Wednesday, Feb. 17

    • 9:44 a.m. An Española Valley High School student punched a hole in a wall and took off walking down Fairview Lane to catch a ride.

    • 5:18 p.m. A female caller reported that a three-year-old girl put a moisture-absorbing chemical from a shoe into her mouth and may have swallowed it. The caller rinsed out the girl’s mouth with water and gave her some milk to drink but was worried something might happen later.

Pot Buyer Jumped

Thursday, Feb. 18

    • 2:18 a.m. — A caller reported a suspicious man in the Arby’s on Riverside Drive. The man said he was just out looking for his wife.

    • 11:00 a.m. — A Sun Loan caller reported two panhandlers were outside the Riverside Drive business.

    • 3:31 p.m. — A woman called to report an unwanted man at her house. The woman said he was not allowed to be at the residence because he piled up trash there. She said he showed up wearing a cream-colored hat but he usually wears a white hat with a bunny rabbit on the back.

    • 5:17 p.m. — A man called to report a bunch of men drinking, throwing trash and harassing an elderly woman on Calle Bustos. The caller said one of the men was wearing a white cowboy hat and another one had braces.

    • 6:09 p.m. — A caller reported that two men beat him up after he tried to buy marijuana from them. He said one of the attackers had a 12-inch blade, and the two men made off with his boots and his jacket.

Friday, Feb. 19

    • 7:28 a.m. — A man called to report that his wife was intoxicated or under the influence of narcotics and harassing his daughter. The caller said he did not want her at his house because he hates her and does not want to be driven to the point of killing her.

    • 9:09 a.m. — A Coronado High School caller reported a 14-year-old girl took 10 shots of whiskey, started vomiting and was drifting in an out of consciousness.

    • 12:53 p.m. — A woman called to report that her 18-year-old son, who is taking medication for depression, was fighting with her boyfriend and threatened to kill him.

    • 5:34 p.m. — A Wal-Mart caller reported that six drunk people were standing around by the dumpster, urinating and throwing trash at customers.

    • 11:36 p.m. — A woman called to report that there were several cows on her property eating the bales of hay she has for her horses.

Can’t Choose Family

Saturday, Feb. 20

    • 12:56 a.m. — A woman called to report that she and her husband got into a fight at the Santa Claran Hotel. The woman said her husband was very drunk, left the hotel, took her children back to his house and hit a car in the process. She said her husband told her she would have to die before getting the children back. The man had a .22 magnum rifle when police arrived on the scene.

    • 1:16 p.m. — A caller reported about 200 rocks falling on State Road 68 between mile markers 19 and 20.

    • 2:25 p.m. — An Española Recreation Center caller said a man was touching two 10- to 12-year-old girls in the dressing room.

    • 3:20 p.m. — A woman called to report her ex-boyfriend followed her and her brother into Christine’s Hollywood Squares and started threatening her brother with a stick.

    • 4:53 p.m. — Española Police responded to a call from a woman who said she thought her brother was stalking her and had thrown pornography all over her yard the previous week.

    • 5:46 p.m. — A woman called to request medical attention for a very drunk man. The man blew a .395 on a Breathalyzer.

Nonstop Barking

Sunday, Feb. 21

    • 12:24 a.m. — A woman called to report that her neighbor’s dogs had been barking for the last three hours.

    • 2:52 a.m. — A caller reported a suspicious vehicle smashed on the top in the Homerun Pizza parking lot in Alcalde.

    • 8:37 a.m. — A woman called to report dead animals and several sick dogs in her neighbor’s yard. The woman said it seemed like her neighbor was soaking the animals’ bones in antifreeze.

    • 6:22 p.m. — A woman said her mother was very drunk and causing problems at her house. When Española Police arrived, the mother and daughter were going to bed, and the daughter didn’t want to file a report.

    • 6:36 p.m. — Agua Sana volunteer firefighters responded to a call about a fire at Victory Faith Church. The firefighters found no signs of fire, just some people inside watching television.

    • 7:47 p.m. — A male caller reported receiving calls from a man who accused the caller of sleeping with the his wife and threatening to kill him if he catches the caller.

    • 9:07 p.m. — A woman reported someone broke into her boyfriend’s truck and took a bottle of Lortabs and $400.
