A Cordova man who allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend’s house and stabbed her with a knife was one of 14 people indicted Aug. 14 by a Rio Arriba County grand jury, according to court documents.
Jaime Gonzales, 19, has been charged with aggravated burglary, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment and tampering with evidence for the June 11 incident, in which he allegedly broke into Amy Sandoval’s home through a window and poked her upper torso with a pocketknife blade, documents state. Gonzales admitted to those basic facts and to discarding the knife, former Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputy Freddie Trujillo said.
Sandoval’s 13-year-old daughter told authorities Gonzales was pulling Sandoval’s hair, hitting her and punching her, and that Sandoval bit Gonzales before he fled the scene.
Gonzales turned himself in June 12 after deputies put pressure on his family, Trujillo said, but while deputies were searching for him in the meantime, they found 22 marijuana plants on his property, and 34 on Sandoval’s. No charges have been filed in connection with the marijuana plants, Assistant District Attorney Kathryn Thwaits said.
Gonzales is scheduled to make his first appearance at state District Court Sept. 11.
