Northern New Mexico College released its first men’s basketball schedule July 30 and has since added two more games, giving the Eagles 19 games so far for their initial season.

Athletic Director and men’s basketball coach Enzley Mitchell said more games may be added, and he preferred not to comment on the schedule until it was final. Mitchell is in Illinois  and is expected to return to Española Thursday (8/7).

The Eagles’ inaugural season will begin with a scrimmage against New Mexico Military Institute Oct. 18 in Española. Northern will then participate in the Coaches Versus Cancer Tournament Oct. 31 to Nov. 1 at Montana State University-Northern in Havre.

One of the games added to the schedule after July 30 will follow when the Eagles travel to Las Vegas, NM Nov. 5 to take on New Mexico Highlands University.

The Eagles first official home game, unless another home game is added at an earlier date, will be against Wayland Baptist University Nov. 18 in Española. It will mark the completion of Northern’s first home-and-home series against a rival team. The Eagles will play at Wayland Nov. 11 in Plainview, Texas.

Northern will hit the road after their initial home game and are not scheduled to return until Feb. 21, when they will take on Johnson and Wales University in the second game of the other home-and-home series they have scheduled so far. The Eagles will face Johnson and Wales Jan. 13 in Denver, Colo.

The second game against Johnson and Wales would have been the Eagles last game of the season, but a game against Colorado State -Trinidad in Trinidad Feb. 27 has since been added to the schedule.

The women’s men’s basketball schedule opens with Westminster College Oct 24 to 25 in Española. The games against Westminster are the Lady Eagles only scheduled home games so far. The women’s team will accompany the men’s team in the Coaches Versus Cancer Tournament in Havre.

The women are scheduled to play 12 games.
