A Dixon volunteer firefighter was arrested for allegedly driving drunk March 20 after he got his truck stuck trying to pull into his driveway.
Robert Brenna, 50, of Embudo, was arrested at 11:30 p.m. outside his home on State Road 68 and charged with aggravated DUI, according to a report written by State Police Officer Michael Dias. The charge was elevated to aggravated DUI because Brenna refused to take a field sobriety or a Breathalyzer test.
Brenna told police he accidentally turned toward his driveway too soon because he had too much to drink. After realizing he couldn’t move the vehicle, Brenna went inside his house and continued drinking until he noticed Dias and State Police Officer Jesse Whittaker outside, the report states. Whittaker and Dias had responded to a call of a truck stuck on the side of the road.
The report states Brenna had bloodshot eyes, smelled like alcohol and was slurring his speech. He was driving his private truck, not a fire department vehicle.
Brenna was arrested, after which he posted $350 bail and received notice his driver’s license would be revoked, according to court documents.
Dixon Fire Chief Carl Berghofer said Brenna would probably be dismissed from the department immediately, before he even goes to trial because Brenna refused to take the sobriety test and that his driver’s license was revoked, Berghofer said.
“This is a severe black eye to the fire department and we’re gonna deal with that,” Berghofer said.
Brenna could not be reached for comment.
