Rio Arriba residential property owners pay approximately $16.76 for every $1,000 of taxable value on their property, according to Chief Deputy Assessor Ron Smith. The taxable value is the amount of money the County assesses a property divided by three. Nonresidential property owners, which include commercial business and vacant land, pay approximately $24.50 per $1,000 of taxable value on their property.
For the Española portion of Santa Fe County the residential rate is approximately $15.76 for every $1,000 of taxable value and approximately $21.88 per mill for nonresidential property owners, Baca said.
Rio Arriba County hospitals and health clinics could benefit from the annexation of the city of Española into Rio Arriba. According to 2007 mill rates, approximately $2.97 for every $1,000 paid in residential property taxes and $4.25 paid in nonresidential property taxes go directly to Rio Arriba hospitals, Smith said.
While a portion of Santa Fe County property taxes do go to county hospitals, Santa Fe County Chief Deputy Treasurer Brian Baca said there is no direct mill rate to account for it.
Property owners in the Santa Fe County portion of the city would see the mill rate for a Santa Fe County County debt service disappear. These are funds used to pay off any debt the county owes, the rates a approximately $1.87 for every $1,000 paid in residential and nonresidential property taxes. Rio Arriba County has no such mill rate, Smih said.
