Española Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies, State Police and Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police responded to the following calls:
West Side Loco
Monday, Sept 15
• 12:05 a.m. — A caller said a man on Fairview Lane who was holding a flashlight was jumping into the bushes and then into the roadway. Officers followed the man with the flashlight to make sure he arrived safely home.
• 1:26 a.m. — A caller said a shirtless man was running up and down Bellas Lane yelling “West Side Locos.” The juvenile was referred to the Juvenile Probation Office.
• 2:47 p.m. — A caller said a woman was dancing around and clapping her hands in the southbound lane of Riverside Drive near Motel 6. The caller said she appeared to be intoxicated or high and needed to be checked out before she got hit by a car. Officers couldn’t find her.
• 5:37 p.m. — A caller said he had information that someone was cutting wood on someone else’s El Rito property. Officers waiting at the bottom of the dirt road from the property never encountered the alleged trespasser’s truck coming down, and no report was taken.
• 6:10 p.m. — A caller said a woman approached her in the Wal-Mart parking lot and told her to leave her daughter alone. She said the woman tried to block her in with her car, but the caller escaped to the RHOC Express. The caller didn’t want to make a report, saying the woman was probably just drunk.
• 7:13 p.m. — A Los Arboles caller said a panhandler woman who goes from neighborhood to neighborhood was a threat to the safety of the old people in the area. Officers were advised.
• 11:33 p.m. — A South Riverside Drive caller said she heard something that sounded like a metal rod fall, and a dog was barking like crazy. No illegal activity was located.
Panhandling Nurse
Tuesday, Sept. 16
• 10:01 a.m. — The Los Arboles caller reported more information about the panhandling woman, saying she was dressed as a nurse.
• 4:29 p.m. — A young man reportedly attempted to get into an Española Valley High School volleyball game without paying. Officers found him walking to his grandfather’s house and advised him not to go back.
• 10:40 p.m. — An Allsup’s gas station employee said a customer was unable to open the gas tank on her red Toyota Camry and acted suspicious when another customer tried to help her. The caller suspected the car might have been stolen; officers were advised.
Gossip’s Dog
Threatened
Wednesday, Sept. 17
• 12:23 a.m. — A caller said guys with buckets were holding up traffic near Dandyburger. They were advised to leave the area.
• 1:35 a.m. — A caller said a man on the side of Highway 84 was flashing a small light. State Police dropped him off at his destination, Wal-Mart.
• 11:10 a.m. — A Rio Arriba County Road 85 caller said when she went for a ride on her wheelchair, her neighbor threatened to kill her dog. The neighbor said the caller was spreading gossip that she was responsible for a wrongful death in the house. No report was taken.
• 2:37 p.m. — A Calle Sierra Vista caller said her neighbor was harassing her and she couldn’t leave her house because she was afraid he would throw a rock at her car. Officers advised both parties to stay away from each other.
• 7:31 p.m. — 911 dispatch alerted officers to be on the lookout for two men stealing sugarcane.
“Osama” Sign
Not Cool
Thursday, Sept. 18
• 7:11 a.m. — A County Road 57 caller said she saw a man tampering with her post office box and her mail had been taken out. When State Police made contact with her, they determined she “just wanted to vent about things,” and referred her to the U.S. Postmaster to report the problem.
• 8:01 a.m. — A caller said a sign for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama posted at the union hall on Los Alamos Highway had been painted over to say “Osama.” The caller said she “didn’t think the sign should be shown that way today since he is coming to town.” When officers contacted the woman, she said she tried to fix the sign with a marker and didn’t need a report.
• 2:08 p.m. — A caller said she wanted an officer to go with her to get her husband at a County Road 57 house, where he was partying with drugs. She said she was afraid of the drug dealers there. Police determined the woman just wanted a ride, and told her they don’t do that.
• 4:51 p.m. — A caller said people in a black PT Cruiser with purple stripes threw a Coca-Cola can at his car on Riverside Drive, and he had no idea who they were. No report was taken.
• 7:32 p.m. — Dulce officials advised dispatch that a green haze was drifting across State Road 537 near an oil drill site. They said it might be hazardous, since a doctor called them reporting the haze burned his eyes and throat. Dulce environmental officials determined the haze was coming from a vaporizer pit and wasn’t hazardous.
• 9:15 p.m. — A Highway 84 caller one mile north of Broken Butte reported poaching on his property. Officers determined it was “just a big disagreement between (the property) owner and renters.”
Keep Your Pants On
Friday, Sept. 19
• 4:47 p.m. — A woman complained in person at the Española Police station that her mother-in-law was taking the reporting party’s prescription pills. No report was taken.
• 6:02 p.m. — A Middle San Pedro Road caller said a man was standing near the ditch with his pants down, and she was afraid her small child might see him. The man was detoxed.
• 6:34 p.m. — A County Road 175 caller said a man dressed like a mechanic claimed he was with the FBI and requested to search her house. The caller refused to let him in. He left before officers arrived but was tracked down and detoxed.
• 10:12 p.m. — A Foster’s Bar caller said four men were being loud and obnoxious and refusing to leave the property. They left before officers arrived.
Son Accuses Mother Of Mugging for Hire Scheme
Saturday, Sept. 20
• 12:32 a.m. — A County Road 1 caller said a black car with a loud muffler was passing by their house about eight times every hour. Officers were advised.
• 1:59 a.m. — An Española Hospital employee said a drunk man who came in complaining of heartburn needed either to be detoxed or driven home. Officers gave him a ride home.
• 7:53 a.m. — A County Road 176 caller said someone broke her bathroom window while she was at her sister’s house. No report was wanted.
• 7:44 p.m. — A County Road 114 caller said a white male with red hair who was possibly “schizo” had been talking to himself for the past three hours. Police couldn’t find him.
• 8:33 p.m. — A State Road 76 caller said her son was jumped, and accusing her of hiring someone to do it. No report was taken.
• 9:40 p.m. — A caller said someone was throwing a party near Highway 84 and the waste management department. State Police determined some sort of concert was going on in the area.
‘Screw with the Cops’
Sunday, Sept. 21
• 1:56 a.m. — An East Hill Street caller said a man who works with her boyfriend was in their yard, but her boyfriend was out of town and she wanted the man removed. He left before police arrived.
• 8:54 — A caller said her boyfriend threw her purse out the car window in the Wal-Mart parking lot. She called to cancel because she found it between the car seats.
• 6:49 p.m. — A caller said both of her ex-husbands were threatening her. She admitted she was drinking, adding that she was outside her home on a pedal bike, and it was perfectly legal. The call was transferred to State Police, who couldn’t find the caller.
• 7:04 p.m. — A County Road 41 caller said some people outside were trying to start a fight with her husband. Officers separated the parties.
• 10:21 p.m. — A caller said her daughter’s boyfriend was hitting her. Officers met with the caller’s brother at her house, who said she was drunk, “made up the story to screw with the cops,” and had since left the house with a friend. Police wrote her up for filing a false report.
