The New Mexico Historical Records Advisory Board awarded $82,000 in grants to 19 New Mexico institutions to preserve and provide better access to their historical records.
Three local projects received grants:
• Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo — The Pueblo received $3,227.17 to microfilm and digitize 11 linear feet of Tribal Council Meeting minutes and Tribal enrollment records, dating from 1904 to the present.
• Abiquiú Library and Community Cultural Center — The Center received $5,075.40 to develop an archival management program for 1.5 cubic feet of the Gonzales-Bode Papers dating from 1914 to the 1930s and audio recordings dating from 1963 to 1969. The Gonzales-Bode papers were found under the floor of the old Gonzales-Bode Store in Abiquiú during its renovation. The records document the economic history of the community. The audio recordings consist of music and songs from the Abiquiú Pueblo fiesta dances and interviews that were recorded in the 1960s by Gilberto Benito Cordova. Funding will also be used to conduct a multi-media training program for the Center’s staff and volunteers.
• Santa Fe County Clerk’s Office — The County received $5,100 to digitize 17 Miscellaneous County Record Books (1990 to 1991) in order to make them more available to the public and to preserve the original books.
