The following large subdivisions have prompted the Rio Arriba County Commission to discuss placing a moratorium on subdivisions while County ordinances are tweaked. The Commission seems especially concerned about the effects they may potentially have on the water supply.
Los Escondidos
Size: Approximately 5,600 acres
Location: On the Mundy Ranch north of Brazos, east of Highway 84/64
Details: 130 homes, dry golf course, tennis court and club house, equestrian facility and 4,100-acre conservation easement
Status: Master plan approval postponed July 31 by the County Commission
Ticonderoga
Size: Approximately 1,500 acres under the approved master plan; however, building started in 1998 on more than 40 connected lots before a plan was ever submitted to the County
Location: Adjacent to Los Escondidos on the Mundy Ranch
Details: 68 homes, 395-acre conservation easement
Status: Approved by the County Commission, and work is ongoing.
Canyon Ridge, formerly Briar Rose
Size: Approximately 5,600 acres
Location: Adjacent to Los Escondidos but not on the Mundy Ranch
Details: Between 75 and 80 homes, 4,000-acre conservation easement
Status: Approved by the County Commission and currently work has begun on roads and power lines.
Yellow Hills
Size: Approximately 4,700 acres
Location: South of State Road 112, west of Highway 84/64 on the way to El Vado Lake
Details: Currently unavailable, as the plan is still being developed
Status: Randall Prouty, president and chief executive officer of World Associates, said he is not sure when the plan will be ready to submit to the County for review.
