Two Santa Fe residents have been in custody at the Rio Arriba County Jail since State Police arrested them for cocaine trafficking Sept. 19 in Velarde, according to court documents.
Juan Marioni, 47, and Jessica Marin, 27, were parked by Club Lumina off of State Road 68 when State Police officers approached them based on information suggesting they were involved in drug activity.
Marin gave a false name and Social Security number, and when her real name was discovered on a license Marioni was holding, it was discovered she had a warrant out for her arrest for traffic-related offenses, documents state.
Juan Marioni told officers he had just consumed cocaine, but didn’t have any left in his possession, and showed officers an empty plastic bag where the drugs had been, documents state. A search of his truck turned up a Walgreens’ pill bottle that contained several plastic bags full of a white powdery substance, tested later to be cocaine, according to documents.
A large bag full of cocaine allegedly was found in the center console of the truck.
After being read his rights, Juan Marioni admitted he was aware the pill bottle with cocaine was in the vehicle. He said he was unaware the other bag of cocaine was in the car.
Marin allegedly admitted the cocaine in the center console was hers, saying the removed it from her bra and put it in the center console when the officers drove up.
Marin and Marioni were charged with possession and trafficking a controlled substance and tampering with evidence, court documents state. Marin was additionally charged with concealing identity, documents state. Marioni previously pleaded guilty to two counts of trafficking a controlled substance in 2001 and possession of a controlled substance in 2004, according to an online court records database database.
Marin and Marioni are being held the jail in Tierra Amarilla on $20,000 bail.
