The Pojoaque High School volleyball team opened district play Oct. 2 with a five-game win over Robertson.
Pojoaque coach Brian Ainsworth said the girls didn’t play their best volleyball, but they pulled through when it counted.
“We’re getting better in some areas, then we’re losing focus in others,” Ainsworth said.
Pojoaque had committed to a tough calendar last week with four matches in six days, but its final scheduled game against Santa Fe Indian School Oct. 4 was postponed until Monday. Results were unavailable at press time.
Ainsworth said his athletes got a much-needed rest over the weekend.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Jim Franklin Bikes Giveaway Program, which distributes bicycles to underprivileged children at Christmastime.
State Police officer Chris Rodriguez, who is stationed at the Española office, also participated in the event.
Rodriguez lost by decision to Rio Rancho firefighter Mike Legendre.
