Police Blotter: Pizza-Pie Scammer Caught in the Act

    Espanola Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies, State Police and Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police officers responded to the following calls:

Drunkard Threatened With Tire Iron

Monday, Nov. 16

    • 1:34 a.m. — A Blue Spruce Bar employee said a man, who had been removed from the bar because he was drunk, was banging on one of the bar’s windows and yelling. The caller said another man pulled up to the bar, got out of his car and looked like he might have wanted to start a fight with the drunk man. The caller said the new man was taking off his shirt and getting a tire iron. No one was hurt and the drunk man was detoxed.

    • 3:06 p.m. — A caller said a woman hit her in the face at Wendy’s.

    • 3:53 — A Pinch Penny Wash-o-Mat employee said one customer was accusing another of stealing a jacket containing money and a cell phone. The employee said a customer put down their jacket, and it was mistakenly picked up by another customer who thought it was his. The latter customer then brought back the jacket after removing $20 from the pocket. The complaining party was advised of her options by 911 dispatchers.

Tuesday, Nov. 17

    • 2:58 p.m. — Ohkay Casino security said a female non-tribal member, who had been removed from the premises because she was suspected of selling drugs, had returned and was refusing to leave. Police advised her she wasn’t welcome at the casino.

    • 4:08 a.m. — A Ziegler Street caller said a man was knocking on doors requesting to use the phone and get something to drink. He couldn’t be found.

    • 9:27 a.m. — A Highway 84 caller said he needed to speak to a deputy about someone throwing appliances at the entrance to his house. No report was wanted.

    • 11:28 a.m. — A North Railroad Avenue caller wanted to know why an animal control officer was in his backyard. The caller was advised the officer was in a nearby backyard, not the caller’s. Police stood by while the officer took pictures of some dogs in case the irate caller showed up.

    • 5:47 p.m. — An Enchanted Mesa Mobile Home Park caller said her grandparents were sending her threatening text messages.

    • 6:31 p.m. — A caller said the occupants of a vehicle driving east on State Road 76 were sticking bottles out their windows.

Wednesday, Nov. 18

    • 12:38 a.m. — A Chama caller said he saw a huge flash and an explosion traveling west that hit the ground. Police determined it might have been a meteor.

    • 3:13 a.m. — A Pete’s Chevron caller said a man in a tan Pontiac Grand Prix was driving all over State Road 74, then stopped at the gas station and complained he lost his keys. Police cited the man, who left the gas station on foot.

    • 5:01 a.m. — A Rio Arriba Health Commons caller said an intoxicated man was in her office. She called again because the man said he was going to get rowdy with the  officers. The man’s aunt picked him up.   

    • 6:18 p.m. — A County Road 55 caller said her ex-boyfriend packed up all her belongings and threw them outside.

Thursday, Nov. 19

    • 1 p.m. — A Sun Loan Company caller said she wanted police to get a man who was intoxicated and falling asleep. He was detoxed.

    • 5:33 p.m. — A female caller said a woman keyed her vehicle at Gallegos Styling Salon.

    • 6:37 p.m. — A Birch Lane caller said his brother-in-law left his broken-down vehicle parked at his house for a year and a half and he wanted an officer to have him remove it.

    • 7:09 p.m. — A North Coronado Avenue caller said her neighbor was burning something they shouldn’t have been, and it smelled bad.

    • 10:10 p.m. — A State Road 76 caller said she heard a loud crash outside the house and believed someone was trying to enter. She said she was scared to look outside, and dispatchers noted she sounded drunk. 

Mysterious Checkpoint

Friday, Nov. 20

    • 10:16 a.m. — A caller said a truck passing the turnoff to La Puebla had insulation falling out of the back.

    • 1:12 a.m. — A Cordova caller said a group of people was stopping everyone that drove by and asking them for drugs. The caller said they were doing the same thing the previous day. Police found no one there.

    • 3:31 p.m. — A caller said she didn’t want her boyfriend there because he was harassing her. She also said if he tried to get in, she would stab him. She said she didn’t have the knife in her hand but would get one. He left before police arrived.

    • 5:07 p.m. — A caller said a man who was going to pick up some pizzas was using her credit card. “(Suspect) came to pick up the pizza pies,” an officer noted in dispatch logs, before taking a report for fraud.

    • 6:32 p.m. — A caller said she got word that her son was at her Las Vegas Street house doing drugs. Police made contact with him and found no narcotics. The son said his mother was using police to harass him; so police called her back to advise her not to use police to harass a member of the public.

    • 8:01 p.m. — A Dakota Lane caller said a drunk woman was trying to  get into a house and yelling, “I am going to break down the door!” The homeowner said his mother was drunk and told him something was going to happen in the neighborhood.

    • 9 p.m. — A Walgreens caller said a drunk man was trying to start an altercation. He was extremely intoxicated, and his son came to pick him up.

Stalker Loosened Wheels

Saturday, Nov. 21

    • 12:16 p.m. — A Gonzales Lane caller said her neighbor was trying to build a wall next to her cellar. She said she was afraid to approach the neighbor on her own.

    • 1:31 p.m. — A Prescilla Lane caller said she was being stalked by a man. She said he might have loosened the wheels on her car because they came off the other day while she was driving. She said she didn’t want to provide any other information; so no report was made.

    • 2:45 p.m. — A Private Drive 1037 caller said her drunk dad was driving around in her mother’s car.

    • 8:14 p.m. — A County Road 142 caller said her brother threatened her five days before over a dog.

    • 8:59 p.m. — A Private Drive 1549 caller said his neighbor’s dog killed a goat and his chickens. He said he talked to his neighbor in the past about the loss of his livestock and wanted to speak to an officer about what he could do. He wasn’t there when police arrived.

Sunday, Nov. 22

    • 12:08 a.m. — A Calle Redonda caller said four children wearing masks were walking up and down the street looking suspicious. Police made contact with the children and determined they were skateboarding.

    • 2:31 a.m. — A Birch Lane caller said a man was intoxicated and throwing things all over the house.

    • 2:59 a.m. — A County Road 2 caller said he woke up to find his roommate had stolen some of his pain pills. 

    • 3:16 p.m. — Officers were advised to be on the lookout for the drunk occupants of a white Chevrolet Suburban that left Valley Superette. Police caught up to the Suburban and determined the occupants weren’t drunk. They had gone to Center Market after getting in a confrontation with the butcher at Valley Superette.

    • 7:19 p.m. — A McDonald’s employee said a man without a shirt was walking in the middle of the street trying to kick out windows and running at cars. He was detoxed.

    • 9:22 p.m. — A Private Drive 1129 caller said a man in the house was extremely drunk, loud and violent.
