When A Stranger Calls
Monday, Aug. 16
• 8:19 a.m. — Someone stole a vehicle battery from the North Railroad Avenue city compound and tampered with another battery, dispatch logs state.
• 9 a.m. — A boat and woodworking tools were taken from a cabinet shop on Private Drive 1082.
• 12:40 p.m. — Police responded to a report of drug paraphernalia at Española High School. The juvenile was sent home with a family member.
• 1:29 p.m. — A Ricardo Lane caller said a woman he has a restraining order against broke into his residence.
• 2:08 p.m. — A Camino Rio Vista caller said there was a man pounding on the doors and windows to his neighbor’s house, and his neighbor was not home. He then reported the man was “hopping around” on La Joya Street.
• 2:15 p.m. — A Santa Cruz Post Office caller complained there was a man in the parking lot exposing himself to people.
• 4:25 p.m. — A North Railroad Avenue caller said there was a dog in the street drain. Animal Control recovered the dog and found that someone was throwing food to it in the culvert. They told that person not to.
• 4:51 p.m. — A Fairview Lane caller complained she was receiving several phone calls from a private number and the person on the other end wasn’t saying anything, just staying quiet.
• 8:19 p.m. — An Allsup’s convenience store caller said there was an intoxicated man outside and people were afraid to leave the store.
• 9:05 p.m. — A County Road 2 caller said a neighbor shot his dog in the eye with a BB gun and the BB was sticking out of his dog’s eye.
Ear Nightmare
Tuesday, Aug. 17
• 1:53 a.m. — An Española Hospital caller said a patient in the emergency room got angry and started throwing his crutches when he was told the staff would not give him any painkillers. They asked for an officer to calm the man down.
• 11:30 a.m. — A Calle Rancho Viejo caller said there was a suspicious truck that was abandoned in the mud with a large amount of scrap metal in the bed.
• 12:47 p.m. — A Santa Clara Apartments caller said there were two buses blocking the driveway. The caller did not want to leave his name because he was afraid of retaliation.
• 1:37 p.m. — A woman stole between five-and-six packages of diapers from Walmart. The store only recovered one package.
• 2:03 p.m. A Lotaburger caller said an intoxicated man was passed out by the main door. Police took the man in for detoxification.
• 3:10 p.m. — A Day Lily Lane caller complained that a neighbor was putting sand down in front of his driveway. One of the men became angry, according to the log, and started throwing sand and weeds.
• 3:31 p.m. — A Sandy Lane caller said his girlfriend and step-father hit him with weights. The man was bleeding from his eye, ear and arm.
• 10:20 p.m. — A Ramon Tafoya Road caller said something crawled into her husband’s ear and was biting him. The man was bleeding.
Drive-by Stoning
Wednesday, Aug. 18
• 1:14 a.m. — A State Road 74 caller said she saw two drunk parents with a child. The drunk woman was hitting the child and the man was trying to stop her.
• 10:09 a.m. — A La Joya Street caller saw a white Mitsubishi Montero being chased by a maroon Honda Civic. The driver of the first car said the other vehicle had been following him all over town and people inside were throwing rocks at him.
• 4:59 p.m. — A Walgreen’s caller complained there was a man shooting up in the parking lot and there were five other men who were just loitering around the store.
• 5:04 p.m. — A North Riverside Drive caller said she broke someone’s windshield while she was hauling gravel and the person was now following her.
• 7:53 p.m. — A Fairview Sonic caller said there were six or seven “younger kids” who were getting drunk in the parking lot.
Convenience Store Call Girl
Thursday, Aug. 19
• 1:17 a.m. — A Duane Drive caller complained her drunk brother was at her home telling her off. She wanted the police to take him away.
• 2:01 a.m. — A Santa Claran Hotel caller complained about a man smoking narcotics near the bowling alley. Dispatch logs state the man’s vehicle was searched with his consent and they found a pipe, but there wasn’t “enough” in it to charge him.
• 7:21 a.m. — A Las Lomas Apartments caller said there were several discarded needles by the bus stop and he wanted an officer to pick them up.
• 9:25 a.m. — An Ash Loop caller said a man she knew was acting up, throwing things and threatening to kill her and her brothers.
• 1:21 p.m. — A Triple S Grocery Store caller complained that a woman was in the area trying to get money for sexual favors.
• 1:29 p.m. — A Santa Cruz Dam Road caller complained that people were shooting a firearm toward the dam.
• 7:15 p.m. — A Valdez Park caller reported seeing a large fight. When police arrived, people told them a car left with two women who were boxing with each other.
Storm Drain Dog Back
Friday, Aug. 20
• 3:23 a.m. — A Plaza Del Cerro caller reported a fight with about seven people who were carrying bats.
• 3:25 a.m. — A Triple S caller reported a woman who was passed out in the median in front of the gas station. Police left the woman with her boyfriend, saying she had a little too much to drink and was feeling sick.
• 8:08 a.m. — A Highway 84 caller said his neighbor’s dog attacked his miniature horse and the horse was severely injured.
• 11:01 a.m. — Española Hospital staff said a man was transported there who was very angry at the emergency room staff and took a swing at one of them.
• 2:53 p.m. — Walmart store security said they had a shoplifting suspect in custody and he was trying to fight them.
• 3:02 p.m. — A North Railroad Avenue caller said there were several dogs barking inside the storm drain.
• 3:45 p.m. — A box by Española City Hall containing fiber optic lines was struck by something, which caused $1,000 in damage.
• 6:26 p.m. — A Walgreen’s caller said a woman and a man on crutches were trying to break into a storage shed.
• 10:19 p.m. — An Allsup’s caller said there was a suspicious male in a sailor suit yelling at people about the war in Iraq.

Saturday, Aug. 21
• 12:28 a.m. — A Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Park Road caller said there was a man lying down and yelling, claiming his ankle was broken.
• 1:16 a.m. — A North Riverside Drive caller said someone jumped behind his truck, claiming someone was trying to kill him.
• 3:04 a.m. — A Country Road 81 caller said a man threatened her with a gun and told her to get out of the house.
• 4:41 a.m. — A Highway 84 caller saw a hitchhiker covered in blood. Dispatch logs state the man had bad road rash and was being taken to the hospital.
• 11:20 a.m. — A County Road 131 caller said her neighbor was sitting in his doorway naked and she has children that can see him. She called back to say her neighbor’s wife must have gotten up because she started yelling and shut the door “at least.”
• 4:30 p.m. — A Jackrabbit Trail caller said his son’s mother passed away recently and the grandmother and uncles were threatening him.
• 5:58 p.m. — A Keith Street caller said she and her husband were putting up a fence and her neighbor was harassing them, saying he was going to burn down their garage and storage trailer.

• 12:12 p.m. — A Shoe Department caller said a man stole $55 white shoes but the shoes were too big for him.
• 12:41 p.m. — An El Paisano caller complained that a clerk was accusing her of stealing something.
• 2:04 p.m. — A North Riverside Drive caller said a woman was having an allergic reaction to cookies she ate.
• 2:42 p.m. — A Walgreen’s caller said two men were trying to break into cars in the parking lot. They ran off in the direction of Sonic when the man said he was calling police.
• 3:18 p.m. — A State Road 68 caller said he and his girlfriend were driving toward Taos when she punched him in the face.
• 4:24 p.m. — A San Pedro Shell caller said a woman and two men were trying to sell DVDs and being rude to people when they wouldn’t buy them. Police told dispatch he was taking someone to Española Hospital to be treated for withdrawal.
• 6:35 p.m. — A Lowdermilk Street caller said two very drunk men were walking and one of them nearly fell into traffic.
• 7:18 p.m. — A Cook’s True Value caller reported seeing a man with wire cutters who looked like he was trying to cut his way into the fence.
• 9:12 p.m. — A Santa Claran Hotel Casino caller said there was a suicidal man who was cutting himself with a pocket knife.
