Police Blotter: Persistent Drunk Seeks Help Buying Booze in Parking Lot

    Española Police officers, Santa Clara and Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police officers, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies and State Police officers responded to the following calls:

Drunken Domestic Ends Painfully

Monday, Feb. 7

    • 12:25 a.m. — A La Joya Street caller said a drunk man was throwing things in the house and hit the female caller with a phone. She told police he was going to pretend he was asleep when they arrived. A boy was crying and the man threatened to hurt him if he said anything to the officers. City police went to the home and officer Greg Esparza said the man “smashed” his finger. The officers said they used a Taser on someone at the house.

    • 6:05 a.m. — A Calle Roybal caller said she got home and found her dogs were scalped and stabbed. The caller said the dogs were still alive.

    • 7:36 a.m. — A Henry Valencia car dealership caller said someone broke in and stole rims, broke windows to cars and removed all four tires from two vehicles.

    • 6:26 p.m. — A Subway caller said a drunk man was falling down on vehicles in the parking lot.

    • 10:57 p.m. — A Highway 84/285 caller said two men in their driveway were threatening to kill one another. The caller said some girls were screaming.

Man Freaks Over Decade-Old Photo

Tuesday, Feb. 8

    • 7:44 a.m. — A Triple S convenience store caller said someone was selling religious items in the area and she wanted him to move.

    • 11:23 a.m. — An Indian Way caller said a man was throwing her around the house before he left for Santa Fe. She said the man was angry after he found a picture of her and another man that was taken 10 years ago.

    • 12:37 p.m. — A special needs student at Española Middle School allegedly smashed a teacher’s finger in a door and was yelling at the teacher.

    • 3:49 p.m. — A Center Market caller said three people in a brown Chevy Tahoe were doing narcotics in the parking lot.

    • 5:01 p.m. — A Popay Avenue caller said a drunk woman was falling all over the road.

    • 6:17 p.m. — A West Jonathon Drive caller said a woman took some food to him but ended up breaking some of his glasses. The man sounded drunk on the phone, dispatch operators noted.

    • 7:31 p.m. — A Vista Del Rio Apartments caller said three kids were destroying the laundry room.

    • 7:56 p.m. — A Private Drive 1063 caller wanted people to leave her home because they were “freaking out on her” and threatening her son.

Pit Bull Buffet

Wednesday, Feb. 9

    • 12:53 a.m. — A Calle Cordelia caller said someone was banging on the back door of her trailer.

    • 9:23 a.m. — A County Road 59 caller said some pit bulls were in the area and the caller was afraid the dogs would bite children.

    • 11 a.m. — An Allsup’s caller said a man wearing a brown jacket said he was assaulted by someone and was bleeding from the eye.

    • 3:45 p.m. — A Calle Milagro caller said someone was stealing water meter covers.

    • 3:51 p.m. — An Allsup’s caller said a drunk man was turned away from the store when he tried to buy alcohol. The man went into the parking lot and started asking other customers to buy alcohol for him.

    • 3:52 p.m. — A Calle Serrano caller said her mother’s bedroom window was broken. Electronics were missing from the home and their big-screen television was found in their back yard.

    • 4:28 p.m. — A Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Park Road caller said there was a syringe and several liquor bottles near the walking path.

    • 7:38 p.m. — A State Road 76 caller said her vehicle window was shot out with a BB gun.

    • 10:09 p.m. — A County Road 56A caller said his girlfriend was getting violent and was demanding drugs and money.

Girlfriend’s Revenge

Thursday, Feb. 10

    • 1:35 a.m. — An Aaron Lane caller said his ex-girlfriend stole his cell phone and rammed his truck with her Nissan Pathfinder before driving off to Chimayó.

    • 8:37 a.m. — A Center Market caller said employees detained a male shoplifter who was fighting with them. Police called the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office and learned the man had a hearing in a separate case scheduled for that day.

    • 2:18 p.m. — Dispatch took a call from a Taos County caller who said her vehicle was stolen sometime during the day. She said she got a call from someone who said the vehicle was wrecked somewhere in La Puebla.

    • 4:42 p.m. — A Private Drive 1146 caller said his uncle was taking tires from his house.

    • 6:08 p.m. — A State Road 30 caller said a cow was on the road near Domino’s Pizza.

Skittish Gunmen

Friday, Feb. 11

    • 2:13 a.m. — A Calle del Pajarito caller said a woman was screaming, “You’re going to die,” at her. She said the woman was locked outside the house. One woman was taken by police for detoxification.

    • 3:22 a.m. — A Las Lomas Apartments caller heard three gun shots. Police found at the scene a gun that had the serial number scratched out.

    • 10:02 a.m. — A caller said the buildings at the Velarde baseball field were defaced with graffiti.

    • 12:40 p.m. — A Giant gas station caller said a man was passed out by the pumps. The caller said the man was “out of it” and an ambulance took him to the hospital.

    • 2:23 p.m. — A County Road 87 caller said a man was passed out in an arroyo in Chimayó.

    • 2:45 p.m. — A North Riverside Drive caller said her 18-year-old son was lying on the ground outside. She said he smoked something called “Mary Jane Herbal Essence.”

    • 6:42 p.m. — A caller said people near the Española Valley High School were firing a .22 rifle in the air. The caller said when he drove by they jumped into the bushes and then stood back up.

Murderous Man Clarifies Position

Saturday, Feb. 12

    • 2:48 a.m. — An Alamo Road caller said he was going to kill someone and said he was homicidal, not suicidal. The call was transferred to State Police and the caller hung up.

    • 8:03 a.m. — A Lowe’s Home Improvement caller said a neighbor was in her house that morning and $400 was now missing from her home.

    • 9:12 a.m. — A Victory Faith Church caller said a man who was covered in blood said he was assaulted in Hernandez.

Renegade Gerbil

Sunday, Feb. 13

    • 1:35 a.m. — An East Bond Street caller said a man in a leather jacket was pulling a woman in a red muscle shirt by the hair.

    • 10:21 a.m. — A Private Drive 1543A caller said his neighbor pointed a gun at him, shot it in the air and threatened to kill him.

    • 11:08 a.m. — A Calle del Parajito caller said a 7-year-old girl was bitten by a gerbil.

    • 1:14 p.m. — A Martinez Lane caller said an intoxicated woman was staggering along the side of the road. The woman had self-inflicted wounds to her neck and arms, according to police.

    • 3:31 p.m. — A Calle Duran caller complained about seven juveniles who were standing in his front yard smoking marijuana.

    • 5:34 p.m. — A Paseo de Oñate caller said someone flagged him down and said some people tried to assault him and take his cell phone.

    • 7:10 p.m. — A Starlighter Loop caller said a long-haired man who was wearing a flannel shirt was knocking on his door and asking for money. He said the man was trying to open his door. The caller said he was going to shoot the man if police didn’t get there.
