Española Police officers, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies and State Police responded to the following calls:
Vicious Stray Cat Strut
Monday, April 18
• 12:18 a.m. — A Camino De Quintana caller said her friend came over and was fighting with a woman. The man was drinking a lot, the caller said. The woman tried sneaking outside. The caller said the man tried to run the woman over with a car.
• 9:04 a.m. — A Calle Chueco caller said there were vicious stray cats under a trailer and they attacked the caller’s pet cat.
• 10:33 a.m. — An Española Valley High School caller reported a student had heroin.
• 12:29 p.m. — A North McCurdy Road and Mountain View Street caller said his wife hit him over the head. The caller said he had brain surgery Dec. 31.
• 3:27 p.m. — A County Road 41 caller said people were in the road fighting with garden tools. The caller said they were definitely fighting with shovels and he said he didn’t want to deal with this all summer.
• 6:39 p.m. — An Orchard Lane caller said he heard seven gunshots, possibly from a 9 mm handgun. Another caller said vehicles were firing shots at each other. A caller said she saw a man in a vehicle with a handgun sticking out of it. Police could not find the vehicles.
Do-It-Yourself Theft Investigation
Tuesday, April 19
• 9:40 a.m. — A Guachupangue Road caller said she reported her car stolen the day before and she found it with the man still inside with the keys. Dispatchers could hear the two people fighting. They lost contact with the caller. Police stopped the vehicle by the Las Lomas Apartments, recovered the car, made contact with the woman and took one person to the Española Jail.
• 1 p.m. — A Private Drive 1613 caller said there was a bipolar female who was “acting crazy.” The woman was sitting down outside, the caller said. The caller said the woman went inside the house and put a towel over her head.
• 1:32 p.m. — An Española Valley High School caller asked for an ambulance for two females who snorted pills. Police took a report for students who possessed prescription drugs and marijuana.
• 1:55 p.m. — An Ohkay Express Mart caller said someone jumped over the counter and stole money from the cash register.

Wednesday, April 20
• 9:08 a.m. — A North Riverside Drive caller said someone broke into vacuums at the car wash.
• 11:42 a.m. — A State Road 75 caller said someone broke into his shed and stole a weed eater.
• 1:30 p.m. — A Calle Bustos caller said there were some people in the residence next door who didn’t live there. The caller said these people were getting drunk. The caller said they called him a bad name and threw a rock at his fence.
• 3:11 p.m. — A County Road 80 caller said her son was at the home and was going irate. The caller said the man took off with his father’s prescription medication.
• 3:18 p.m. — A Private Drive 1436A caller said he was in a fight with his wife. He said she took all of his money, got mad and pushed his son to the ground. The man pushed her back. The caller said his son threw another person at someone.
• 6:58 p.m. — A Camino Sin Salida caller said a bullet entered his home through the roof and went into his children’s bedroom. An officer said he did not hear any gunshots.

Thursday, April 21
• 10:29 a.m. — A Hindi Avenue caller complained about a neighbor playing loud music. Police asked a man who was detailing his truck to turn the radio off.
• 11:21 a.m. — A North Riverside Drive caller said two women were fighting in the road by Wells Fargo Bank. The caller said one of the women was trying to pull the other out of her car by her hair.
• 12:09 p.m. — A County Road 79 caller said he bought a vehicle from his brother and now his brother didn’t want to give him the vehicle. The caller said the man had a rifle.
• 1:03 p.m. — A Calle Quintana caller said a man and a woman were trying to break windows to her home. The man ran away from the home.
• 4:08 p.m. — A County Road 101 caller said two guns were stolen from his home. The caller suspected a man who came to his home the day before asking for scrap metal.
• 5:59 p.m. — A Giant Gas Station caller said her drunk boyfriend took her van, hit a deer with it and exploded one of the van’s tires.
Fugitive Hides in Plain Sight?
Friday, April 22
• 1:22 a.m. — A Wal-Mart caller said a man was trying to shoplift electronics from the store. The caller asked for help because the shoplifter had a history of putting up a fight. The caller said the man put the items in a shopping basket and ran out the fire escape.
• 12:27 p.m. — A Las Lomas Apartments caller said a man hit her with a bat a couple days ago. A caller said she just found her windows broken after seeing him in the area.
• 12:56 p.m. — A McDonald’s caller said two nicely dressed men in ties were trying to sell things to customers, but were getting aggressive with people when they refused.
• 2:15 p.m. — A Wal-Mart caller said he saw murder suspect Jody Romero in the store. The suspect was seen in the food section. Española Police could not find anyone suspicious.
• 2:28 p.m. — A Calle Lopez caller said there were two women fighting next door and a woman was pushed off the stairs. The caller said a man was kicking things in the yard.
• 4:03 p.m. — An Arby’s caller said a man went in and ordered a sandwich. The man grabbed some money and left running.
Neighbor Alleges Infidelity and Flees
Saturday, April 23
• 12:20 a.m. — A Las Lomas Apartments caller said three people were hiding behind a fence and throwing eggs.
• 11:45 a.m. — A Hindi Avenue caller said her daughter’s neighbor is accusing the daughter of having an affair with the neighbor’s husband. The woman jumped the fence to the home and left.
• 3:26 p.m. — A Vista Del Rio Apartments caller said she heard three shots and a man yelling by the playground. Another caller said he saw two vehicles exchanging gunfire. A third caller said a man pulled a shotgun out and fired. The two vehicles were a maroon Pontiac Grand Am and a blue Ford Explorer. City detectives advised officers to be on the lookout for the two vehicles.
• 5:01 p.m. — A North Riverside Drive caller said someone wearing a red hooded sweatshirt was hitting a vending machine with a hammer.
• 5:44 p.m. — A Holy Family Church caller said he heard seven shots in the arroyo near Chimayó Elementary.
• 9:27 p.m. — A Holy Cross School caller said there were about three or four males in a vehicle who yelled at the caller and pulled a pellet gun out on him. The caller said these males were about 15 years old.

Sunday, April 24
• 12:50 a.m. — A Highway 84 caller complained about a large party playing loud techno music.
• 3:41 a.m. — A Private Drive 1069A caller said someone tried to steal his wallet and took off running.
• 10:19 a.m. — A County Road 80 caller said her son was getting out of hand. The son wanted someone to buy him drugs.
• 3:01 p.m. — A Forest Road 144 caller said he was hiding Easter eggs when he found a tarp that had bones wrapped up inside it. State Police said they had a similar call the week before and the bones belonged to a bear. A Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputy confirmed the bones were from a bear.
• 4:06 p.m. — An Ohkay RV Minimart caller said someone tried to steal a 30-pack of beer and was unsuccessful.
• 7:36 p.m. — A State Road 554 caller said a woman was sitting in a wheelchair under a tarp in front of El Llano Bar. The caller said he tried talking to her and she got angry. The caller said he wanted someone to check on her because it was raining and getting dark outside.
