Española Police, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies and State Police responded to the following calls:
Child’s Bike Extortion
Monday, Feb. 21
• 2:08 a.m. — A Calle Josefita caller said some young people were walking around the area armed with a baseball bat. The caller said they looked like they were in a fight.
• 11:41 a.m. — A State Road 554 caller said two men in a white van with a blue stripe were going around the neighborhood saying they were selling vacuum cleaners. The caller said the men didn’t actually have vacuum cleaners with them, which she thought was suspicious.
• 5:55 p.m. — A Center Market caller said someone shoplifted 11 cans of baby formula, which was worth about $100.
• 6:48 p.m. — A North Paseo de Oñate caller said her son’s bike was stolen and she found it at a home on the other side of the mobile home park. A little boy was riding the bike. She confronted the boy’s mother, who said she would have to pay $20 to get the bike back. Police got a call later from another woman caller who said her son bought a bike last weekend and now that he was riding it some children threatened to stab him if he didn’t give them the bike.
• 7:37 p.m. — A State Road 96 caller said her granddaughter was armed with a knife and threatening to hurt her. She said the granddaughter accused her of stealing her purse.
Panhandler Runs for the Border, Restroom
Tuesday, Feb. 22
• 4:39 a.m. — Police took a woman, who was found on the side of the road, from the Española Hospital to the Española Jail for detoxification.
• 10:46 a.m. — A Terrace Farm Road caller said there were horses across the street from his home that were starved and didn’t have water. A woman called about an hour later and said someone shot a horse.
• 12:20 p.m. — A North Riverside Drive Blake’s Lota Burger caller said two people were fighting in the parking lot. Police learned they were fighting over family issues and they told the two men to get a restraining order against each other.
• 1:55 p.m. — A Taco Bell caller said a man in camouflage pants was panhandling but would run into the bathroom every time he saw the police.
• 3:27 p.m. — A Harley Lane caller said four firearms and one air compressor were stolen from his shop.
• 7:29 p.m. — A Calle Ranchitos caller complained that people were playing tennis and were using cars to light the court.
Dog Dragged into Domestic Dispute
Wednesday, Feb. 23
• 8:13 a.m. — A West Hill Street caller said someone threw a rock through the back window of her car.
• 10:11 a.m. — An Española Northern New Mexico College caller said someone was standing on the side of the road making motions that he was going to jump into traffic.
• 2:45 p.m. — A County Road 41 caller said someone broke into her home and there was a man’s handprint on her chest of drawers.
• 3:48 p.m. — A Coronado High School caller said a student was threatening to cut her wrists because of some disciplinary actions she faced because of something that happened on the bus.
• 6:46 p.m. — A Walgreens caller complained that a man with a tattoo on the back of his head was panhandling.
• 8:34 p.m. — A Canada Court caller said his wife and step daughter got into a fight. The daughter kicked a Chihuahua, then she and her mother started hitting each other. The caller said his 27-year-old son threatened to shoot people in the home.
Puritan Toward Makeup
Thursday, Feb. 24
• 2:20 a.m. — A White Swan Road caller said a woman hit his daughter because she was wearing makeup. The woman said she was going to kill the daughter.
• 11:55 a.m. — A Private Drive 1610A caller said two men broke into her home but they left in a red car. She said the men broke her door open with a rock. She saw them trying to disconnect her television, but they ran out when she saw them.
• 2:36 p.m. — A Casa de Corazon caller said someone broke into the business and stole two surge protectors. The caller thought someone left the window unlocked so people could get inside.
• 5:08 p.m. — A Calle Loma caller said someone in a white car with black rims and a black car bra shot at him. The man did not want to talk to the police about it.
• 6:49 p.m. — A Walgreens caller said someone ran out of the store with bottles of liquor.
• 9:16 p.m. — A County Road 87 caller said her son was telling her he won’t be there when she wakes up in the morning. She wanted an officer to talk to him.
Goat Confounds Animal Control
Friday, Feb. 25
• 6:09 a.m. — A La Cocina caller said there was a goat in the parking lot. Animal Control officers tried to get the goat, but it ran away from them into the bosque. The goat escaped.
• 1 p.m. — A Las Lomas Apartments caller said there were about four men fighting in the apartments. The caller was told by a neighbor that one of the men was thrown from the second level of the apartments.
• 4:21 p.m. — Someone on County Road 1 complained about noise from a neighbor’s property. A deputy spoke with the man and said he was listening to music and “having some drinks with his friends and the horses.”
• 5:19 p.m. — A North Railroad Avenue caller said she was by the DeVargas Funeral Home and someone in a silver car pushed the car up against her. She said the man grabbed her, put her in the car and went up to Veteran’s Memorial Park Road.
• 6:41 p.m. — A Dreamcatcher Cinema caller said a man and a crying 5-year-old girl were in the theater. The caller thought the man was touching the child inappropriately.

Saturday, Feb. 26
• 12:53 a.m. — A Sesame Street caller said a drunk woman was hitting her boyfriend and threw a glass. She said the woman was upset because the man said he hated her.
• 9:54 a.m. — A Fairview Lane caller said he saw a woman running while she looked back over her shoulder at a man, who was walking after her.
• 10:42 a.m. — A County Road 41 caller said her husband threatened her and called her names. She complained that his daughters interfere in her life. She said she called a preacher.
• 4:24 p.m. — A San Pedro Plaza caller asked for an ambulance after another man hit him in the eye.
• 7:58 p.m. — A Subway caller said her ex-boyfriend came into the store and pushed her into the bathroom.
Panhandlers Respect the PSA
Sunday, Feb. 27
• 4 a.m. — A County Road 56 caller said her daughter was threatening to cut her head off.
• 4:58 a.m. — A North Coronado Avenue caller said a white GMC truck, which was full of welding equipment, was stolen.
• 12:32 p.m. — A Calle Redondo caller said her daughter called and said her husband, who was angry because she was leaving him, was threatening to go to her home and kill her. The man was also threatening to kill a male friend of hers. Police arrested one man on battery against a household member charges.
• 3:14 p.m. — Two people wearing black hooded sweatshirts were reportedly panhandling at Wal-Mart and ran away when they saw a Public Safety Aide vehicle.
• 3:20 p.m. — A County Road 60 caller said her pregnant friend was getting beat up and someone was trying to hit her with a car.
• 5:43 p.m. — A Vista Del Rio Apartments caller said someone was trying to break into the washing machines to steal change.
