Police Blotter: Money Disappears from Purse in County Manager’s Office

    Española Police officers, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies and State Police responded to the following calls:

Throwin’ Shots Out

Monday, Jan. 24

    • 9:11 a.m. — A County Road 86 caller said she was pregnant and another woman tried to hit her. Police asked for an ambulance for a 17-year-old girl who was having chest pains and problems breathing.

    • 1:07 p.m. — A Rio Chama Chevron caller said people in a vehicle shot at two people. One of the victims left before police arrived and the other was hitchhiking and did not want to make a report.

    • 5:05 p.m. — An Española Hospital caller said a woman took a high dose of drugs there and was told by staff she needed to find a ride home. The caller watched her get into a car and drive away.

    • 10:59 p.m. — A Valdez Park caller heard seven shots near the Española Skate Park. Police could not locate the source of the noise.

Blanket Heist

Tuesday, Jan. 25

    • 12:51 a.m. — A suicidal woman near the Española Baskin-Robbins took 10 pills, a caller said. Medical staff transported someone to the hospital.

    • 3:52 a.m. — A County Road 38 caller said a drunk man tried to kill a woman with a knife.

    • 12:58 p.m. — Wal-Mart staff told police they detained a shoplifter, who wanted to fight the staff and run away.

    • 1:25 p.m. — A Private Drive 1335 caller said something bit her son on his stomach and he was in and out of responsiveness and had a fever. The caller said there was a stinger in his skin and a green liquid came out.

    • 3:30 p.m. — A man found a shotgun outside of the RHOC Express convenience store and wanted to turn it in to police.

    • 4:33 p.m. — A North Paseo De Oñate caller said a drunk woman was passed out on the curb with her legs hanging out into the road.

    • 10:41 p.m. — A Santa Claran Hotel caller said there was a man and a woman walking in the area with a bag and they would not let anyone see what was inside it. Police detained the woman, but the man ran toward Laguna Street carrying a “bunch of blankets.”

    • 11:21 p.m. — A Private Drive 1301 caller said there were people arguing at Family Dollar and it looked as though they were pulling out guns.

Driving Pills Stolen

Wednesday,  Jan. 26

    • 8:17 a.m. — A County Road 1 caller said someone stole his wood-splitter. Police located the splitter and had the person return it to the owner.

    • 12:21 p.m. — A Hindi Avenue caller said there was a small girl who was crying in the road, and there was a man chasing her around and hitting her. They saw the man grab the girl and take her into a mobile home. Police arrested the man on a warrant, although the Adult Probation Office called later and said the warrant should have been dropped.

    • 1:41 p.m. A Calle Duran caller said a woman was on top of the caller’s car and they could not get her off. The caller said the woman was not drunk, but had health problems.

    • 7:43 p.m. A Calle Algodones caller said his home was broken into and someone stole a television, small laptop computer and portable DVD player.

    • 8:13 p.m. A North Prince Drive caller said someone broke into her Ford Ranger and stole CDs as well as bottles of hydrocodone and Xanax.

Wake’N’Bake’N’Bank

Thursday, Jan. 27

    • 9:22 a.m. — A Bank of America caller said someone in a custom-painted black car was smoking drugs out of a pipe.

    • 10:22 a.m. — A South Riverside Drive caller said some people stole her pedal bike and she knew where to find them. She said she was going to get a gun and take care of it on her own because no one wanted to help her. An Española Police officer was looking at surveillance tapes to investigate the theft.

    • 10:26 a.m. — An Española Middle School caller said two girls were in a fight in the girls’ bathroom and other girls were recording it.

    • 1:19 p.m. — Española officers Tased a woman who went into Subway and yelled at customers who were ordering food. The officer said this was because she would not get into his cruiser.

    • 3:29 p.m. — Española officers notified other police agencies about a report that people were selling Tasers out of an auctioned-off police Crown Victoria cruiser.

Mom Is a Terror

Friday, Jan. 28

    • 1:22 p.m. — An Española Municipal Court caller said someone was using one of the clerk’s lines to tell people they have unpaid parking tickets. Dispatchers forwarded the call to the Española Police investigations unit.

    • 3:25 p.m. — A Wal-Mart caller complained that his daughter’s boyfriend scratched his truck.

    • 3:56 p.m. — A school resource officer confiscated brass knuckles and a knife from an Española Valley High School student.

    • 4:03 p.m. — A State Road 76 caller said someone in a vehicle was chasing a man and a woman who were on foot.

    • 5:03 p.m. — A caller from the Rio Arriba County Manager’s Office in Tierra Amarilla said someone stole money from her purse.

    • 9:32 p.m. — An East Sanchez Street caller said her mother hit her with her cane. During the call, the mother allegedly got on the line with dispatch operators and started yelling at them. The caller later said she locked herself in the bathroom for protection until her mother left.

    • 10:12 p.m. — A County Road 56A caller said a man hit her boyfriend in the face with a board.

Drunk Gets the Munchies

Saturday, Jan. 29

    • 2:47 a.m. — A RHOC Express caller said her sister and her boyfriend beat her up at Victory Faith Church.

    • 8:50 a.m. — A Private Drive 1411 caller said her son was arguing with his father over car keys. Deputies asked for help from State Police because they were worried they would be shot at.

    • 9:44 a.m. — An El Llano Road caller saw a green Honda and a black Suburban on the road and occupants of both pulled out guns on each other.

    • 10:24 p.m. — A Triple S caller said a drunk man was passed out in the store. The caller said he got up and started eating a bag of chips. The caller said the man ignored her when she said he had to pay for them.

    • 12:26 p.m. — A State Road 96 caller said he was camping and some men who were getting drunk threatened him. He said he thought they did this because he was an outsider.

    • 10:21 p.m. — A man at the Española Police Department told officers he was on Facebook at a friend’s house and a woman started arguing with him. He wanted to tell the police about it because he was a felon.

Mother Held for Ransom

Sunday, Jan. 30

    • 2:35 a.m. — A Martinez Lane caller said a woman who was drinking was hallucinating and talking to herself.

    • 10:11 a.m. — A caller from the F&A Car Wash on La Joya Street said a man was slumped over his steering wheel and may have overdosed. Police took one person to the Española Jail following the call.

    • 4:36 p.m. — A Wal-Mart caller said someone was selling Tasers in the parking lot for $40.

    • 5:44 p.m. — A County Road 142 caller said someone shot up his daughter’s car.

    • 6:04 p.m. — A Santa Clara Apartments caller said someone stole an angel urn containing his mother’s ashes from his house. When he asked for the man to give the urn back, the man said he would return it for $100.
