Police Blotter: Someone Try To Set Man’s Car on Fire

    Española Police, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies and State Police responded to the following calls:

BB Attack

Monday, May 17

    • 8:02 a.m. — A Honda was broken into at the Habitat for Humanity house at Calle de Los Amigos and a debit card and stereo were stolen.

    • 9:27 a.m. — A State Road 17 caller reported that a woman was with her therapist but she was holding a knife to her side and threatening to use it on herself.

    • 10:55 p.m. — Several windows at Escalante High School were broken by vandals, a caller reported.

    • 12:07 p.m. — An Española Valley High School Student was accused of possessing marijuana with an intent to distribute.

    • 2:43 p.m. — A 5-year-old boy was transported to the Española Hospital after he bumped heads with another student at San Juan Elementary school and started bleeding, according to 911 dispatch logs.

    • 5:25 p.m. — A 14-year-old girl was assaulted at Española Middle School, a caller reported.

    • 7:11 p.m. — A male passed out while in front of the pharmacy at Walmart, a caller reported.

    • 11:03 p.m.— An Abbey Lane caller reported shots were fired at his home. An investigation showed two BB pellets hit the residence.

    • 11:22 p.m. — A State Road 399 caller reported people came into his home and started shouting at him.

    • 11:49 p.m. — A Corlett Road caller said there were four people in the area of the Taco Tortilla Factory, one who was lying on the ground and the others appeared to be using a needle.

Building Wounded

Tuesday, May 18

    • 12:48 a.m.—  A Canada Court caller at the Vista Del Rio Apartments said she could hear a woman screaming in an unknown location.

    • 7:11 a.m. — A Rio Arriba County Road 84 caller said someone broke into his car and tried setting it on fire sometime during the night.

    • 8:19 a.m. — A Mesa Vista High School student was accused of possessing marijuana, according to dispatch logs.

    • 9:46 p.m. — A County Road 56A caller asked State Police to investigate a suspicious bag that seemed to have body parts inside. State Police investigators said the bag contained meat that belonged to an animal.

    • 10:01 a.m. — A North Riverside Drive caller at Cricket Wireless said the building had been shot during the night.

    • 4:22 p.m. — Someone went to the Rio Arriba County annex to complain that a neighbor removed her fence.

    • 8:21 p.m. — A fight involving nine males was reported in the Walmart parking lot.

Utility Theft

Wednesday, May 19

    • 7:11 a.m.  — A North Riverside Drive caller at Windstream Communications reported that 300 feet of copper wire was stolen.

    • 10:55 a.m. — A female was accused of shoplifting from Walgreens a vibrator, a vibrating condom and a candle.

    • 11:47 a.m. — A County Road 175 caller claimed a man threatened to cut his throat with a chain saw.

    • 1:38 p.m. — A horse galloped on to Corlett Road after escaping its fence, a caller reported.

    • 2:11 p.m. — A battery was stolen from a vehicle on Industrial Park Road, a caller reported.

    • 4:03 p.m. — A North Riverside Drive caller said a man was about to fight with a Radio Shack employee.

    • 4:43 p.m. — A man was arrested after flashing a gun at a woman near Española Elementary.

    • 7:03 p.m. — A County Road 86 caller said someone was trying to steal an electrical pole.

Missing Gun

Thursday, May 20

    • 1:14 a.m. — A Santa Claran Casino Hotel employee complained a man destroyed lights and part of a wall. The damage was estimated at $300.

    • 11:56 a.m. — A male student was accused of assaulting a female student at Española Middle School.

    • 1:14 p.m. — A Private Drive 1034 B caller said someone his girlfriend knew dropped off his vehicle, but a gun was now missing from the vehicle.  The gun was a black “270 Savage” rifle with a scope and a gun sling, the caller said.

    • 7:15 p.m. — A North Riverside Drive caller said a clerk at the Hindi Shell Station was receiving death threats.

    • 8:01 p.m. — An Quick Stop employee said an ex-employee was threatening to come to the business and start a fight.

School Fights

Friday, May 21

    • 6:07 a.m. — The side of Major Medical was defaced with silver spray paint, a caller reported.

    • 9:54 a.m. — The Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Department investigated a call of two people who went missing while on a fishing trip. The Department was called back that afternoon and informed the anglers had been found.

    • 10:06 a.m. — A County Road 135 caller said some scuba tank radios, a handheld radio and a portable printer were stolen.

    • 11:34 a.m. — Four female students attacked another female student at Española Middle School, a caller reported. The victim had a possible head injury and was taken to the emergency room, according to dispatch logs.

    • 12:36 p.m. — There was a fight between two females at Española Middle School, a caller reported.

    • 4:06 p.m. — State Police investigated a report of someone setting off firecrackers by Hernandez Elementary. One of the suspects was hiding by a trailer, according to dispatch logs.

    • 5:56 p.m. — There was a report of a gang fight at Big Rock Casino with several men wearing gang colors flashing weapons and taking off their shirts.

    • 7:36 p.m. — There was a report of a registered sex offender hanging around Valdez Park.

    • 7:41 p.m. — A South Riverside Drive caller said she was robbed while sitting at the San Pedro Sonic.

Saturday, May 22

    • 12:50 p.m. — There was a report of gunfire near the Las Lomas Apartments. Dispatch logs note that an officer asked someone to pick up some juvenile suspects, but it later notes the juveniles were not involved in the incident.

    • 2:44 p.m. — A Bobcat Lane caller said a couple of males were fighting in a football field.

    • 11:22 a.m. — A Calle Armada caller said a neighbor came over and hit his mother.

    • 5:46 p.m. — A County Road 59A caller said some males kicked in his door and were trying to fight his brother.

Sunday, May 23

    • 12:32 a.m. — A caller reported a domestic dispute in which a woman was trying to hit her grandmother. The suspect was then going around the house threatening to break the windows.

    • 1:16 a.m. — A Private Drive 1055 caller reported an underage drinking party. An officer said he approached the youths and “they scattered like flies.”

    • 2:03 a.m. — A guest at the Ohkay Hotel reported that some people “ransacked” a guest room.

    • 12:07 p.m. — Fire crews on El Llano Road extinguished a fire at “some sort of hobo camp.”

    • 9:46 p.m. — A County Road 1 caller said someone broke into his residence through a bedroom window and stole an X-box game system.
