Police Blotter: Woman Gets Lost, Finds Free Breakfast

    Española Police officers, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies and State Police responded to the following calls:

Deadbeat Pet Owners

Monday, May 16

    • 12:10 a.m. — A Private Drive 1024 caller said his daughter’s ex-boyfriend went to her house, took her computer and her car keys, and walked away.

    • 9:56 a.m. — A Walgreens caller said a man and a woman shoplifted alcohol and a hair straightener from the store and left in a van.

    • 10:30 a.m. — A woman came into the Española Police station claiming someone was using her name and date of birth in a citation.

    • 5:44 p.m. — A Highway 84 caller said there was a suspicious person walking around an abandoned house by the blinking light in Tierra Amarilla.

    • 6:49 p.m. — A North Prince Drive caller said a man pulled a gun out on him. The caller said he had kids in the car and they were crying hysterically.

    • 7:05 p.m. — A County Road 1 caller said he thought his neighbors left two cats alone in the home without food or water. The caller said the home owners had been gone for about a month.

    • 8:56 p.m. — An Española Hospital caller said a suicidal person disappeared from the hospital. The caller said the person was wearing a medical gown.

    • 10:32 p.m. — A Private Drive 1301 caller said she was pregnant and her dad tied her up with a cord in the bathroom. The caller said she thought he was on drugs and drunk. Other people in the home said the woman was delusional and trying to fight family members in the house. One person was transported to the hospital.

Tuesday, May 17

    • 12:20 a.m. — A La Joya Street caller said she heard two gunshots by the fire station. Police could not locate the source of the alleged gunshots.

    • 12:22 a.m. — A Tesuque Drive caller said she thought her 26-year-old son was throwing a party at her house without her permission.

    • 8:27 a.m. — An Española Middle School caller said three students who were between the ages of 13 and 14 came to school under the influence of alcohol.

    • 9:29 a.m. — A Rio Arriba County Health Commons caller said someone left the clinic and said, “May God have mercy on all of you.” The caller thought he may be trying to do something to the workers there.

    • 11:38 a.m. — A Matt’s Window and Glass caller said a man was sleeping inside one of the sheds he sells.

    • 1:51 p.m. — An Española Hospital caller reported an aggravated battery in which one child burned another with a lighter.

Strong-Arming Sparklers

Wednesday, May 18

    • 2:16 a.m. — A Zia Estates caller said her boyfriend hit and bit her the night before.

    • 12:53 p.m. —  An Ohkay Travel Center caller said people were in the Pyro City fireworks store with brass knuckles. The caller said the people were trying to take items.

    • 1:32 p.m. — An Española Hospital caller said there was a fight in the hospital’s parking lot.

    • 5:14 p.m. — Someone on Camino de Roberto called 911 and left the line open. Dispatchers could hear a female yelling about being mad and arguing with a man, and a child in the background making noises and yelling. Dispatchers heard the woman yelling that the man was dead meat. A police officer could be heard in the background. He called dispatch and said the kids were playing with the phone and everything was OK.

    • 7:01 p.m. — A Private Drive 1554A caller said he was trying to take a woman home and she strangled him.

    • 8:07 p.m. — A State Road 74 caller said there were some guys with guns in someone’s yard. The caller heard gunshots. Another caller said he saw a white Pontiac Grand Am with four men inside leaving north on State Road 74.

Thursday, May 19

    • 1:33 a.m. — Las Lomas Apartments callers said they heard several gunshots, which may have been fired at a vehicle. They said a Jeep was leaving the area.

    • 7:59 a.m. — A County Road 21 caller said a woman who suffers from dementia went missing. Neighbors called and said they saw the woman waving down cars. The caller found the woman and took her out to breakfast before taking her home.

    • 11:26 a.m. — A Petsense caller said the store fired an employee for sexual harassment that morning. The caller said the man was drunk, calling the store and harassing the district manager on his cell phone. The caller said the man was demanding the woman’s phone number. Police talked to the man and told him not to go on the store’s property or to call its employees.

    • 12:50 p.m. — A State Road 110 caller said a 52-year-old man was cutting boards and fell off a balcony. The patient was conscious and breathing but had cuts on his back, a bloody nose and a contusion to his right eye.

    • 6:03 p.m. — A Carr Lane caller said she misplaced her house key and thought her neighbors took it. She said her neighbors moved out that day and her television was stolen from her house.

What’d the Cars Do to You?

Friday, May 20

    • 6:06 a.m. — A Harley Lane caller said the brother of his landlord was sitting in a vehicle. The caller said the man was usually armed with a pistol or a rifle. Police spoke with the man who said he was watching his property.

    • 2:35 p.m. — A Villa Del Norte Apartments caller said there were a lot of men drinking under a tree and “abusing passing cars.”

    • 7:44 p.m. — A Los Alamos Highway caller said two men were drunk in an arroyo, yelling at a Santa Clara Tribal Police officer, who was yelling back at them. The caller told dispatchers this fight had been going on for about 15 minutes. Police said one man ran and he was in custody of the officers.

    • 8:56 p.m. — Dispatchers got a call from Hill Top Road. They could hear a lot of yelling and someone asking, “Who did you call?” before the line went dead. Santa Clara officers told dispatch they could not find anyone fighting.

Graduates to Motherhood

Saturday, May 21

    • 4:48 a.m. — A State Road 111 caller said a man broke a bottle and was trying to cut his throat with it. The man cut his lip and his friend washed his face.

    • 10:12 a.m. — An Española Valley High School caller said a pregnant girl was dilated about seven centimeters but was not in active labor. The caller asked for an ambulance in case the girl went into labor.

    • 2:51 p.m. — A State Road 76 Family Dollar caller said a blood-covered woman was walking on the street and a man was chasing after her. Deputies said it appeared the woman just fell. They were standing by waiting for an ambulance.

    • 3:22 p.m. — A Wal-Mart caller said a female shoplifter was in custody. The woman took two DVDs and one Blu-ray video, a tube of tooth paste, tooth brushes, eyeliner and a bottle of nail polish.

    • 6:26 p.m. — A State Road 76 caller said someone shot at his home and shattered two of the windows. The caller thought it was a small-caliber weapon, possibly a BB gun.

    • 9:17 p.m. — A Dairy Queen caller said she was robbed by someone who held a box cutter to her neck. The caller said she was sitting in the parking lot when the man opened her door and told her to give him  her wallet. She did so and he left.

Sunday, May 22

    • 12:31 a.m. — A County Road 49 caller said three drunk men were fighting. The caller said someone was punched. Deputies said there were several men throwing rocks. One man had a wound to the side of his head that appeared to have been made with a brick.

    • 2:07 a.m. — A North Riverside Drive caller said someone chased after a man he suspected of breaking his vehicle windows and slashing his tires.

    • 1:28 p.m. — A Wendy’s caller complained a man was shooting up in the bathroom. The caller said the man picked up his needle, left and drove away, but left his phone behind.

    • 5:05 p.m. — A Santa Claran Hotel and Casino caller said a man was drunk by the gas station. The man kept falling over.

    • 6:59 p.m. — A South Prince Drive caller said she got a call from someone threatening to beat up a girl at a Sweet 16 party.
