Española School District Custodian Leonard Atencio cleans an empty classroom usually filled with reading students, Feb. 8, at Española Middle School. Six custodians and some maintenance workers spent three days sanitizing the school under a directive from the federal Centers for Disease Control, after it closed because nearly half of the staff and more than a third of the students were absent because of the flu or flu-related symptoms.
