McCurdy junior running back Jedediah Cordova scored three touchdowns in the second half to lead the Bobcats to a 41-12 victory over Santa Fe Indian School Sept. 12 in Santa Fe.

“(Cordova) had an excellent game,” McCurdy coach Eric Vigil said. “Our offensive line played fantastic and really dominated the game.”

Junior Josh Lovato scored McCurdy’s first touchdown on a four-yard run in the first quarter and took most of the snaps from center at quarterback because regular starter Louie Martinez had been sick all week.

“(Martinez) tried to go for us, but we had to keep taking him out of there because he was so weak,” Vigil said.

Indian School scored on a touchdown pass just 16 seconds after Lovato’s first score, but  McCurdy answered with two more touchdowns in the first half and led 21-6 at halftime.

“It was good to have a team that battled us,” Vigil said. “We were able to get our first team on the field for a full game.”

The Bobcats improved to 3-0 on the season and has beaten its opponents by a combined score of 173-26. The Bobcats face Fort Sumner Friday. Fort Sumner has won four consecutive Class A state championships and beat McCurdy 60-0 last season.
