Police Blotter: Goldilocks Turns Violent: 3 Bears, 1 Dead Dog

    Española Police officers, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies and State Police responded to the following calls:

B-Double-E-Double-R-U-N

Monday, Dec. 27

    • 7:56 a.m. — A Calle Rancho Viejo caller said someone in a black truck drove up and smashed all of the windows in her home.

    • 12:36 p.m. — Police called an ambulance to Wal-Mart following a report of a 21-year-old man huffing either gas or paint who went unconscious there. The man woke up again, but later was tackled by a Santa Clara Tribal Police officer for a reason not specified in the report. Police took the man to the emergency room.

    • 3:26 p.m. — A North Riverside Drive caller reported about five people who were fighting in the street. She said they almost caused an accident. The people were gone by the time police arrived.

    • 6:18 p.m. — A Hindi Shell Station caller reported a theft, in which a woman committed a “beer run” while the clerk was busy with another customer.

    • 7:29 p.m. — A South Riverside Drive caller wanted her husband taken away from her home. She said he was trying to throw her out of the residence

    • 7:33 p.m. — A South Riverside Drive caller said another man slapped him and said he was going to kill him.

    • 11:32 p.m. — A Private Drive 1520 caller said he broke up with his girlfriend, telling her he didn’t want to be with her any more. The man reported an assault and said he was bleeding badly out of the left side of his head.

Dog Bruined

Tuesday, Dec. 28

    • 3:51 a.m. — A County Road 41 caller said there were three bears in the yard. The dispatch logs note that something “tried to open the window.” The caller said the bears killed one of her dogs.

    • 3:18 p.m. — A Calle Algodones caller said a woman wearing all black was breaking the windows to her home. She said the woman had many cuts on her hands.

    • 3:52 p.m. — A Jonathan Drive caller said she lost her dog and found it on an online classified website. She said the person who found the dog had since adopted it to someone who renamed the dog “Lucky” and would not return it.

    • 7:04 p.m. — A Calle Redondo caller reported a fight involving six people. Police spoke to the combatants, who said they were arguing over water.

    • 7:58 p.m. — A Sunset Drive caller said a man armed with a golf club was hitting the side of her trailer.

    • 8:08 p.m. — A North Riverside Drive caller said two girls were walking and someone was threatening to shoot them.

    • 8:50 p.m. — A Triple S caller said someone shot a rifle, which struck the store. Police could not find the person who fired the gun.

Party Turns Fourth Amendment Lecture

Wednesday, Dec. 29

    • 12:17 a.m. — Police on North Paseo De Oñate broke up an underage drinking party. Three juveniles fled, but one person who stayed behind argued with police, claiming he wanted to see a warrant.

    • 1:49 a.m. — A Cook’s Mobile Home Park caller said an intoxicated man was at his sister’s home, breaking windows with a brick.

    • 2:04 a.m. — A Giant Gas Station caller said a woman tried to shoplift a blanket and a stuffed animal from the store.

    • 7:23 a.m. — A Santo Niño Lane caller came home and saw a man in her bedroom putting things in his pockets. She called the police, who reported later they had one prisoner and were towing someone’s vehicle.

    • 9:49 a.m. — An Española Hospital caller said her car was stolen from the parking lot after she had been inside the hospital 15 minutes.

    • 4:50 p.m. — A Highway 84/285 caller complained about a homeless woman who kept breaking into her house and stealing things from  her.

    • 11:24 p.m. — A caller at the Dreamcatcher Cinema said she came outside and found someone had thrown a bottle at her windshield. She said it smelled like gas.

Thursday, Dec. 30

    • 11:53 a.m. — A Calle Alamosa caller said people on the road were throwing snowballs at cars.

    • 12:08 p.m. — A North Riverside Drive caller reported a possible strong-arm robbery at Valley National Bank. Police spoke to one of the alleged robbers who said they were just trying to help their intoxicated friend home so they could get him to bed.

    • 12:16 p.m. — An Avenida Canada caller said people were using narcotics, possibly heroin, while sitting on swings in the park.

    • 5:47 p.m. — A County Road 101 caller said his intoxicated girlfriend was assaulting him with a knife and trying to break into his home. He said she slashed the tires to his truck, and he put something in front of the door to keep her out.

    • 8:43 p.m. — A County Road 2 caller said a dump truck was driving in the neighborhood and he thought that was strange because it wasn’t picking up trash.

    • 9:42 p.m. — The County Road 101 caller from earlier in the night said his girlfriend was back and stabbing the door to his home and slashing his tires. He felt his life was in danger. State Police sent someone out to his home.

Drink and Drink and Drink and Fight

Friday, Dec. 31

    • 1:23 a.m. — A South Riverside Drive caller, whom dispatchers stated was “crying about pills,” wanted a man gone from the home. Dispatch stated both people were drunk and she asked that someone take the man to jail. They were separated by a family member.

    • 1:39 p.m. — A Del Norte Credit Union caller said a man broke their ATM and left.

    • 1:49 p.m. — A North Riverside Drive caller said her car was parked behind Pizza Hut. She said people who broke into her car the week before were looking for it again and she thought she was being stalked.

    • 2:53 p.m. — Deputies responded to a domestic violence call on County Road 44 in which a caller said she was fighting with her brother and threatening to kill him. The brother broke the windows to their vehicles and was trying to hit his father. At least two people there were threatening to kill each other. Deputies arrested two people; one for a battery and another on a warrant.

    • 8:34 p.m. — A Calle Don Leandro caller said her mother was drinking and trying to choke her.

Mediocre Samaritan

Saturday, Jan. 1

    • 12:03 a.m. — A North Riverside Drive caller was driving and saw a man passed out beside a building. The caller did not want to stop.

    • 12:13 a.m. — An East Kennedy Loop caller said someone went inside the house and tried to beat a man with a bottle. Police arrested one person after a foot pursuit and took him to the Santa Fe County Jail.

    • 1:56 a.m. — A Santa Claran Casino caller said they had a woman in the security office who was vomiting.

    • 7:05 a.m. — A Las Lomas Apartments caller said a man and a woman who were drunk were fighting. The caller said the man hit the woman in the face and pushed her into a wall.

    • 1:35 p.m. — A State Road 95 caller said her friend was in the home and refused to leave. She called back stating police still hadn’t arrived, then someone took the phone away from her and screaming was heard in the background.

    • 3:14 p.m. — A County Road 86A caller said someone, who she thought was under the influence of narcotics, was in her house breaking “everything.”

Deputy Busts MP3 Heist Open

Sunday, Jan. 2

    • 12:33 a.m. — A Walgreens caller said a man was throwing orange road cones into the street.

    • 12:22 p.m. — A Sheriff’s deputy on Industrial Park Road learned someone had their MP3 player stolen. The suspect then sold it to someone else for $15. The suspect brought back the money. The deputy gave that money to the buyer, who gave back the MP3 player, which the deputy returned to the caller.

    • 12:23 p.m. — A Highway 84 caller said about six vehicles spun out on the road. No one was injured but the vehicles were blocking the road.

    • 12:32 p.m. — A County Road 41A caller said someone “hacked” into his Facebook and e-mail accounts. He wanted to file a report for “invasion of privacy,” but police were not sure if that was a reportable offense.

    • 2 p.m. — An El Llano Road caller said his 46-year-old neighbor was calling him names and threatening to fight him.

    • 3:20 p.m. — A Fairview Lane caller said someone wearing a red hoodie was tagging walls with graffiti.

    • 4:01 p.m. — An Española Jail caller said an inmate was vomiting blood. The inmate was taken to the hospital.
