Española Police, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies and State Police responded to the following calls:

Scary Knock

Monday, April 6

    • 2:20 p.m. — A Riverside Drive caller said someone threw a brick at his window and attempted to get into his car. He said there was a shovel and a brick lying by his car. No report was wanted.

    • 8:27 p.m. — A Jacquez Radiator caller said a man was knocking on her door, and she was scared. She was uncooperative with officers and would not give information about the suspect. 

Haggling for Coffee

Tuesday, April 7

    • 2:32 a.m. — A Pueblo Mobile Home Park caller said a man claiming to be her son’s friend was at her door and asking for gas money. She didn’t know him, and he was detoxed.

    • 2:55 a.m. — A Giant Gas Station employee said a man kept yelling at the employees and asking for free stuff. Then he went to buy a cup of coffee but didn’t have enough money, and the clerk told him he couldn’t take the cup unless he paid full price. The man threw his dollar and left with the coffee. No report was wanted.

    • 1:59 p.m. — A caller said she had a dispute with Rio Arriba County Magistrate Court’s staff and wanted an officer to meet her at the court because she didn’t want any problems with the staff. No report was taken.

    • 8:39 p.m. — A Hindi Mobile Home Park caller said a drunk man was getting irate because she didn’t want to buy him alcohol. She hung up because her mother was upset she called 911. He was detoxed.

Wednesday, April 8

    • 6:08 a.m. — A Heron Lake ranger said a man was acting suspicious and said he wanted to report a poaching incident. The call was referred to the state Game and Fish Department.

    • 6:14 a.m. — A County Road 293 caller said his neighbors put some pipes across the gate they share with him and put up a keypad so he couldn’t get to his property. They were referred to the courts for the civil matter.

    • 10:47 a.m. — An El Llano caller wanted a man removed from his property, whom he had an argument with that morning. He was given a ride to the Ohkay Express Mart.

    • 4:33 p.m. — A Prince Drive caller requested an audience with the cattle inspector, but wouldn’t give dispatchers any other information. The message was passed on to the livestock inspector.

    • 4:59 p.m. — A Sundial employee said a customer kept making sexual remarks and the supervisor wouldn’t do anything about it. The employee was told to call police if he returned.

    • 8:41 p.m. — A Dandy Burger employee said two drunk men were playing on the loudspeaker and causing trouble. Santa Clara Tribal Police dealt with the men.

    • 9:56 p.m. — A McCurdy Road caller said someone or something may have fallen off his roof, and he didn’t want to go outside and check. Police found a turkey on the roof and left a note for Animal Control to get it in the morning.

    • 9:59 p.m. — A County Road 112 caller said it was weird that someone was walking in a field. Then he hung up. It turned out that the man’s motorcycle broke down, and he abandoned it.

Mean Landlord

Thursday, April 9

    • 11:39 a.m. — A drunk caller said some children were throwing rocks and bottles at her and her boyfriend. The children told police the couple was throwing bottles at them. Both groups were advised to stay away from each other.

    • 12:04 p.m. — A caller said someone took the glass off his rear view mirror when he was parked at Lowe’s Home Improvement. 

    • 5:08 p.m. — A Canada Court caller said her mother was getting assaulted by her boyfriend and both of them were intoxicated. Nothing was going on at the mother’s house, and it was determined that the caller had been harassing the couple.

    • 7:11 p.m. — A Santo Niño Lane caller said her landlord kept yelling at her children and making them cry.

Friday, April 10

    • 1:54 p.m. — A man wanted to make a walk-in report that two girls went to his house to use his bathroom and when they left his wallet and cell phone were gone. A report was delayed until he could get more information.

    • 4:41 p.m. — A Rincon de Estrella caller said he was having a dispute with his landlord. He said he was paid up for the month and had the receipts but the landlord insisted he needed to leave. No report was taken.

    • 6:09 p.m. — A County Road 194 caller said her brother and her brother’s girlfriend were having a dispute when the girlfreind accidentally hit the caller’s father on the hand with a lamp. Later the same girlfriend threw rocks at her brother’s vehicle, the caller said.

    • 8:02 p.m. — A caller said she gave a drunk and possibly high acquaintance a ride at Phillips 66 and he started yelling at passerbys. No report was wanted.

    • 8:28 p.m. — A caller said a woman in a Nissan got irate and followed her from Pojoaque to Española, tailgating her. The tailgater accused her of not having any respect for the pilgrims. Pojoaque Tribal Police handled the road rage incident.

    • 10:35 p.m. — A Fairview Sonic employee said a man went into the business asking for a pen and when he was told they didn’t have one he started yelling. No report was taken.

Neighborly Thief

Saturday, April 11

    • 1:06 a.m. — A County Road 40 caller said some men carrying a rifle and walking past Delancey Street were shouting that they were looking for a man named, “Rocky.” They couldn’t be found.

    • 1:20 p.m. — A Las Vegas Street caller said her son took two checks written for over $1,000 from his grandfather. A report was taken.

    • 7:36 p.m. — A caller said he paid for $20 worth of gas at John’s Service Station and the attendant didn’t put $20 worth of fuel in his car. He said his fuel light was still on afterward, and he demanded his money back. The caller eventually agreed to pay to have the tank filled up all the way.

Take Out Drug Lords

Sunday, April 12

    • 2:50 a.m. — A caller said the driver of a red hatchback was harassing him while he walked on State Road 68. The caller said the driver was possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol and appeared to be masturbating. Police were advised to be on the lookout for vehicle.

    • 12:32 p.m. — A Private Drive 1547B caller said her boyfriend chased her neighbor’s dog. Subsequently, the dog ran under her truck and caused a lot of damage to the underside of their vehicle.

    • 7:52 p.m. — A Nebraska caller said his father in Española told him that he had been jumped and possibly stabbed or shot and would probably die in a ditch. The caller said he didn’t know if his father was joking or drunk. Another caller said the man was at Lowe’s Super Save yelling that there were drug lords he needed to take out. He told police someone was shooting at him, but he wasn’t injured. The call was transferred to another agency.
