The Española Teen Technology Center was awarded a $12,500 grant from the state’s Next Generation Fund Council for the 2008-09 fiscal year.

The grant will be used to develop programming. Programming is aimed at developing a sense of purpose and hopefulness in participants in regard to their own skill and their ability to positively impact change. Programs include cultural arts and educational offerings by local experts, and leadership skills programming.

The Center, a partnership between the Family YMCA and the city of Española, opened in October 2007.

The Next Generation Fund Council awarded the grant through the state Children, Youth and Families Department and the state Commission for Community Volunteerism.

The Center is open Monday through Thursday from noon to 7 p.m., and until 9 p.m. on Fridays, with an all-night lock-in scheduled monthly.

A school-year membership costs $20 and an annual membership costs $40. The Center is located at 808 Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Park Road in Española. For more information call, Center Director Ben Sandoval at 747-6569 or visit www.laymca.org.
